Extension Information Technology (http://eit.tamu.edu) serves a diverse audience and collaborates with many entities to extend our capabilities. The best way to get an overview understanding of EIT functions is our natural workgroup divisions. These are not formalized groups, but functional teams. On a day to day basis, EIT staff function in more than one of these workgroups, although some have primary duties in a single workgroup.

Help Desk

Collaborators: AgriLife Extension, AgriLife Research, COALS, TTVN, CIS, County government, State government
Primary EIT Staff: none assigned (Nov 2007)

Help desk operation currently is handled two ways:

1. The EIT office managers route phone calls and emails to the generic unit email account to an appropriate staff memeber.

2. By the use of emails to specific FogBugz (help desk ticketing software) accounts. Each FogBugz account has a specific EIT staff memeber assigned to respond.

The need for a more formal Help Desk operation has been recognized and added to the unit stragetic plan.
