What is Friday Online?

A series of online professional development events offered on Friday mornings from 9:00 to 10:30 am via Centra. Topics focus on competencies related to communication, technology, education/teaching, personal effectiveness, and important human resource issues for supervisors. The current schedule of topics is listed below.

How do I enroll?

  • Go to http://ait.tamu.edu/centra.html and click the top link to log in with your Centra username and password.
  • If you do not have a Centra username and password, click the “Register for” link and create them for yourself.
  • After logging in you will see links on the upper left side of the page. Click the ‘“Enrollment” link to see a list of folders.
  • Click on the "Friday Online" folder to see topics and dates for events.
  • Click on the word "Enroll" to enroll in an event.
  • For a demonstration of how to enroll, go to http://eit.tamu.edu/JJ/centra/EnrollInFriOnline.html

How do I make sure my computer will run Centra?

Make sure that the computer you’ll use to participate is set up to run Centra by running the system check before the event.

  • Go to http://ait.tamu.edu/centra.html and click the top link to get to the log in page.
  • Click the "System Check" link in the black bar below the Texas Cooperative Extension logo and follow the instructions. Have your microphone and speakers or headset plugged in to the computer so that you can complete the audio check as well.
  • If your computer doesn’t successfully pass the system check contact AIT at First-Call@tamu.edu or 979.985.5737 (campus), Toll Free 866.996.2056

How do I attend an event?

On the day of the event go to http://eit.tamu.edu/centra.html and click the top link to get to the log in page, then log in with your centra user ID and password. Fifteen minutes before the start time click the My Schedule link in the upper left corner. Finally, click the Attend link to the right of the Friday Online event to begin the event.

10/02/09 - Drop.io & Doodle

  • Facilitator: Jim Segers
  • Description: Have you ever needed to send someone a file and it was simply too large? What about scheduling a meeting or conference and you need to quickly determine an ideal date and location? Drop.io and Doodle are two tools that can help you with these tasks. Join us for a brief overview and demonstration of these free and easy-to-use tools.

10/09/09 - Windows Vista/Windows 7

  • Facilitator: Fred Rodriguez
  • Description: Still trying to figure out what exactly the "Orb" is? Heard rumors about a new Windows coming out soon? Join us for answers to your basic Vista questions as well as a demo and overview of the new Windows 7. We'll go over some of the new features, take a tour, and discuss how this could impact your work computer environment.

  • Facilitator: Anna Dean
  • Description: A fast-paced overview of LeaveTraq including: where to find your available leave balances, your vacation carryover amount, date of your next vacation accrual rate increase, a detailed report of your leave activity and other information available on your personal account; how to request leave; and, who to contact when you have a leave question.
  • Prerequisites: None
  • Target Audience: Leave-accruing employees, supervisors and unit contacts

10/16/09 (9:00 - 9:40 a.m.) - Leave Traq for Supervisors

  • Facilitator: Anna Dean
  • Description: A fast-paced overview of the LeaveTraq ‘Manager’ role including: how to approve leave requests; differences between the ‘Manager’ and ‘Delegate’ roles; helpful leave reports for managers; how to find your employee’s LeaveTraq account; where to find leave policy information; manager email notifications and settings; and, who to contact when you have a leave question.
  • Prerequisites: LeaveTraq ‘Manager’ role
  • Target Audience: Supervisors who approve leave requests, delegates who approve leave requests in a supervisor’s absence and unit contacts.

12/04/08 - Family and Medical Leave - Eligibility and Designating Coverage for Department Leave Administrators

  • Facilitator: Anna Dean
  • Description: A fast-paced, informative session on the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and recent amendments. Information on FMLA eligibility, notification procedures and reporting in LeaveTraq will be e-mailed to participating Department Leave Administrators two weeks in advance. Session includes activities, scenarios, and discussions to reinforce FMLA information.
