Survey Feedback
The following comments were provided by respondents to a survey of Texas Extension faculty involved in eXtension:
- We are among the best kept secrets in the state for most residents. I suspect that much of that is the result of our primary outreach to production agriculture rather than to the bulk of our state's population. There is a vast field of support out there that we have not even begun to touch!
- I think grassroots marketing is needed to help more specialists understand the value of eXtension to their programming efforts.
- I would hope that the user interface would be made much easier--most of the specialists in my unit have been involved and have complained how difficult this is. Having to spend so much time finding editing, meeting with other states and then having to spend so much time trying to enter things makes this a difficult sell.
- I have been and still am confused about the whole premise of eXtension and how they will help promote Plant Pathology. I believe this to be a specific point of interest to participants, and it will require different answers for the different disciplines (ie. one hat does NOT fit all). I like to see focus being defined for specific discipline groups.
- I know that on the national level that many meetings and conferences have been held using technology. I would like to see Texas host a face-to-face meeting with all the community of practice participants along with the state-level leadership team to talk about how eXtension is being integrated. Also, how is CECP a part of this. I don't mind continue serving on the state Leadership Team, but I want to be involved in action steps and not just participating in a conference once a month to hear updates. That is what I have felt has happened and the interest has decreased.
- We need word from our higher TCE administration (Ed Smith?) of his support for this effort. Mid-level administration seems to think this effort takes resources away from in-state TCE programming and does not seem to value national team involvement.
- Hire a marketing firm because Extension is not good at marketing its own product.
- We should probably have some hands-on workshops related to eXtension on the district/regional level. We have a regional training set for August 2008 and have a four hour time slot for technology training in a computer lab, so maybe this is something we should pursue.
- It's my hope that eXtension will promote itself once the public launch in Feb happens. My CoP (Family Caregiving) received word yesterday that we will launch in Feb so that will help with showing the rounded subject matter of eXtension.
- eXtension will be a great tool for many Extension folks once it develops and matures...I need a break!
- I think having a committee leadership structure like that of the Spirit Committee could be helpful--the Spirit Committee has been able to launch and raise awareness for a number of different initiatives over the past several years. I think we should also have a regular communications vehicle about the activities of Texas Extension personnel related to eXtension, to create a regular contact point and consistent awareness of eXtension among our personnel.
