The following topics were suggested in an earlier survey of Ag IT Support professionals for potential inclusion in the agenda for the August 17, 2006 Ag IT Support Conference. Please edit these as needed, or add new ideas that you may have.


  1. How to build a wireless network that is up to par with A&M policies & procedures. What problem should we expect from the new version of Windows office ’07 and Vista. What can we do about the Urban County Server…it’s a relic and needs to be replaced. Although we are using Symantec and Novell, what better alternatives are out there and should we be using thinking about switching.
  2. Centralized Management (i.e. Active Directory / Novell Zenworks)
  3. How Linux servers will be handled since Paul Sittler's death (I have two Linux Boxes). Who can I call for Linux issues?
  4. Discussion on what would be good solutions to backup media issues to meet audit needs (i.e., we have backup tapes, where to store them; where to place backup servers, another building, off-campus, etc.)
  5. Cold Fusion; MySqL database;

  7. Discussion of what services can be turned off on Windows servers. It would be good to hear a discussion of what the essential services do, as well.
  8. Update on Security Rules (esp. password rotation)

  23. How to use group permissions effectively with Server 2000/2003 (even for peer-to-peer sharing of folders and printers via 2000 or XP for that matter) for allowing access to directories either through sharing and uploading files to.
